Ballet is the basis for all of the other styles of dance, and is the primary focus of training for our beginners. Other styles of dance are easily added once a strong beginning level of dance is achieved.
Our carefully designed curriculum is based on the international standards of the Royal Academy of Ballet and the American Academy of Ballet teaching methods. The highly qualified faculty are trained not only in “how to dance”, but in “how to teach” dance. Each student is individually considered for correct placement in the best class level for their growth and development in their technique and passion for dance.
This class is the transition from our His Steps program to our Children's ballet division offering a strong foundation in ballet. The curriculum is designed for Kindergarten - 1st grade students. Students will begin more focused training on technique with a fun and age appropriate syllabus.
Class length: 45 minutes
Students in this class have the option of adding tap to their class for 15 minutes following the ballet class for an Additional fee
Beginning Ballet classes for 6-12 year olds. Simple ballet steps, along with age-appropriate terminology and imagery are introduced. As more complicated movement patterns are learned, dancers increase their muscle awareness, strength and flexibility, along with confidence and self esteem. More than one year of study in each of these levels is common and very rewarding for the student. Classes meet once weekly.
Class length: 55 minutes
Students may choose to "add on" a tap or jazz class following their ballet class, a choice for many of our dancers.
Dancers desiring a deeper understanding and study of ballet are a part of this program. The curriculum is divided into levels to ensure that students are introduced to new skills at the most appropriate time for their physical, mental, and emotional development. Class placement is based on ability and not age, and is determined after a trial class with faculty. Class length depends on level. All levels meet at least twice weekly. To schedule a trial class, please call the office, 609-4777. Many of these students are also a part of Dance Radiance the performing company of SCCDT.
Serious dancers interested intense training at least four times weekly. Dancers in this level receive training in ballet technique, pointe, modern, contempory, lyrical, and body conditioning. Class placement is based on ability and not age, and is determined after a trial class with faculty. To schedule a trial class, please call the office, 609-4777. Most of these students are also a part of Dance Radiance the performing company of SCCDT.
All of the "Upper School" classes will participate in our end of the year productions and the Christmas events. Some of these classes will have the option to participate in the Performance Awards program of the American Academy of Ballet in January or February of each year.
Ballet students should wear pink ballet shoes and pink tights. Tank or short sleeved leotard and skirts should also be worn. Leotard colors change with some class levels and should be purchased after the appropriate class has been decided by the faculty.
